This is not the best trail on earth but since it's a mile down the road from where I
stay in Eugene sometimes, I come when I'm bored & want to relax. There's a bench
at the top & wild blackberries for as far as the eye can see. Sunset is best. Everyone
else seems to agree though....hint. This thing stretches 12 miles and connects various parks.
People generally enjoy the spencer butte trailhead area best.
Mt Baldy Area- (Featuring myself being a bored dumbass):
So I took a drive to Crater Lake National Park for my birthday to watch the annual perseid
meteor shower. I actually appreciated it a bit more than when I was hiking the PCT
and had to pass through it. I noticed new things I didn't remember about it, especially
in the backdrop. There was a gigantic wildfire across the highway from my view, glowing red
like lava in the darkness with the milky way above. Luckily the wind blew the smoke in the
opposite direction, so the sky was crystal clear as could be. It was actually one of the best
dark sky milky way settings I have ever seen in my life....
Mmmmm. My favorite vegan chocolate cupcake in Eugene, Oregon.
Too bad they only have 1 vegan option now, but it's better tasting than
all of the other actual vegan bakeries I have visited around Eugene.
Even Sweet Life Patisserie.
I like to grab it after Saturday Market. It has just the right amount
of dark chocolate chips added, and the frosting is freaking heavennnn.
Now they only offer the mini version, but it's still delicious.
I really miss the Los Angeles vegan bakeries. As NOTHING....beats them.
Nothing I have tasted yet anyway, and I've been to a lot of vegan bakeries...
This is my second time stopping to hang out in this area. I have a lot of photos from
the sea lion caves when I visited in 2013 while exploring the Oregon Coast Trail.
There's a lot I haven't updated on this blog yet, but here are some photos & video
Both times were awesome and I highly recommend driving out. It's only about
an hr drive from Eugene and there's a lot of cool pitstops and beautiful rugged
coastline all up and down the highway section.
This is probably my favorite trail in all of Oregon. I love the trails in Bend almost
as much as I love the trails around the Sierras in California.....ok..............almost....
Take either the Devil's Lake or Green Lakes trailhead to hike to the top. Each trail leads to
Moraine Lake & from there join on their way up the mountain.
Ya, it gets realllly difficult but the view at the top is just so damn worth the tedious uphill & random
rock climbing. I just don't recommend you do it in a scattered rain/lightning storm like I did...
not the best move. :)
The pictures are pretty...
This is pretty much the entire 456 mile Oregon section of my PCT thru-hike from 2012 in photos. I still have a few left to add and sort through but I'll eventually get around to it.For bigger, better versions of the photos, please see the flickr set/s linked on the bottom.I have also added links to galleries of side trips I took in Oregon along the way.
